The Watoto De’ Afrika (Swahili for “children of Africa”) performing arts program was formed to reflect the love that all children have for performing arts activities and the rich historical and musical culture of Afrikan American people. Watoto program youth have their unique experience of singing, dancing and performing their way through history, an approach that improves their self image and teaches them to appreciate their cultural heritage. To date, more than 3,000 children have had their lives positively impacted by the Watoto programs.
Led by director Donald O’Conner, Watoto De’Afrika has been an avid supporter of Ronald McDonald House of Memphis, bringing their unique entertainment to the children and families of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through performances at Ronald McDonald House and at various fundraising events.
“Welcome to Funzville” is written and directed by Donald O’Conner and tells the story of a group of children who travel to the beautiful, musical city of Funzville. Along the way, learn about being true to yourself, helping others, overcoming fear and more. All while having a good time. Come and experience this wacky fun-filled show that the entire family is sure enjoy. The Watoto Memphis Ensemble has traveled both nationally and internationally in a effort to share the Memphis music experience.
We thank them for their support from the bottom of our hearts!
